Internet Explorer Won’t Download Delivered Files

Today I came across an issue where Internet Explorer 9, and maybe some earlier versions, won’t download files that were delivered off SSL with PHP or ColdFusion. I was very frustrated as I have been securely delivering files this way for a long time. I eventually found the solution in a forum -

This is what worked for me to resolve the exact issue you are having, and may be useful for anyone else in the same position:

Firstly – Note: this answer only relates to people who are having trouble downloading non-IE files over SSL (https://), such as .exe, .pdf, .msi etc.

Go to Internet Options in IE9 (Tools > Internet Options) or click the cog in the top right of the Browser and go to Internet Options.

1. Choose the Advanced Tab
2. Scroll down to Security
3. Un-check Do not save encrypted pages to disk

You should now be able to download the file that IE9 won’t download.

Have fun.

New Google Search Page?

I was just reading this article comparing Google Search and Bing and I decided to check out both pages. I usually do most of my searching via the Chrome ‘Omnibox,’ or whatever it is called. When I went to www.google.com I noticed that it had a different, slicker appearance than I was used to. The buttons were styled diferently. And then, after about 3 seconds, more content faded in. Anyone know anything about this? How long has it been like this? There are some screenshots in the review I was reading and they don’t even match the new look and feel.

I think they might also be doing some browser sniffing, because it looked better in Chrome than in IE – and not just the normal stuff. It looked like different styles were being applied.

Chrome + Video = FAIL

I love Chrome, but man does it have issues when I am streaming video. I am not sure what exactly happens, but it seems to just get overwhelmed after a while and it takes my whole computer down with it. Maybe it is just me.

Go, Chrome!

I was glad to see  that last month Chrome broke 10% in market share. Go, Chrome!

Google Chrome CPU Issues

Chrome was making my CPU go nuts and my whole machine was slowing down. I am not sure if it was Chrome or Wave, so I restarted Chrome and closed my Wave tab. We’ll see what happens.

Browser Article

I like browsers, and I liked this article: After 5 Years on Web, Firefox Preps for Next Round . I am excited for what the future holds.

Google Chrome

I was out with some friends last night and we were discussing web browsers. All three of us use Google Chrome as our main browser. It wasn’t too long ago that I was the only one using it and they were still on FireFox. The browser market is a tough one to get into, but I think Chrome can do it – not only because it is a great browser, but also  because it has Google behind it. My wife and I were watching a show on hulu a few nights back and all of the commercials we saw were for chrome.

Bring on the OS.
